Seiken - Karate Fist

In Karate, Seiken is the term used to describe how students create the fists used in basic punches such as Oi-zuki and Gyaku-zuki.

The key to this punch is in the wrist, it should be tilted slightly to make the two knuckles closest to your thumb, so these stick out from the rest of your hand. If the wrist is bent slightly in this manner, it will strengthen your knuckles as the bones align with out and bends in them. When using this hand shape, it is best to punch with the hand twisted slightly, so if you where to look down your arm, the first knuckle would point like a pyramid.
