Hexagon Agility Drills

Hexagon Agility Drills

Hexagon agility drills are used to improve agility (forward & lateral), speed and balance. These drills use large hexagon-shaped (6 sides) plastic rings. These hexagons can also be drawn on the ground with chalk or made out of tape. Martial artists will jump or hop over these sides in order to work on their footwork. The drills are often timed in order to help the athlete to improve their foot speed by trying to beat their previous record.

Agility training helps martial arts students to quickly maneuver and change positions/stances. This allows martial artists to evade an attack or launch a strike at undefended area (i.e. moving laterally in order to avoid an opponent’s blow and thus being able to quickly launch an effective counter attack against an off-balance opponent).

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained martial arts instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional agility drills (i.e. agility ladder and cone drills), please visit the main Martial Arts Agility Training section.
