Self-Defense Training Suits

Self-defense training suits are heavily padded suits which are designed to protect training partners during self-defense training. These suits cover the entire body of the training partner with thick foam and/or hard plastic outer shells. Self-defense training suits usually include a helmet for head protection. These suits are used by martial arts instructors in order to practice unarmed self-defense and are often utilized in rape prevention classes. More advanced suits can also be used to practice self-defense techniques against weapons (i.e. an opponent armed with a club).

Manufacturers of these suits include Redman, R.A.D. Systems, Spartan Training Gear and others. Self-defense training suits can be quite costly with some of the top-end suits costing $1,000-$2,000. Given the high cost of these suits, this piece of martial arts training equipment is not found in many martial arts schools.
