Instructions for Shotokan Kata - Taikyoku Godan (Kihon Kata)

This page provides videos and instructions for Shotokan Karate kata "Taikyoku Godan". These tools will help you prepare for your next belt test. Written step-by-step instructions for this kihon kata are at the bottom of the page.

This kata is very similar to Shotokan Taikyoku Shodan but students use inside blocks (Uchi Uke) versus the low/downward blocks used in Shodan. This introductory kata is used by some Shotokan schools as a tool for color belt students. Taikyoku Godan is also known as a kihon kata. To master Shotokan Karate katas, you will also have to learn basic Shotokan stances, Karate kicks, Karate blocks, Karate punches, etc.

For other Shotokan katas (i.e. Heian Shodan), please visit the main Shotokan Karate Katas page.
