Instructions for Shotokan Kata - Taikyoku Sandan (Kihon Kata)

This page provides videos and instructions for Shotokan Karate kata - Taikyoku Sandan. These tools will help you prepare for your next belt test. This introductory kata is used by some Shotokan schools as a tool for lower-level color belt students. Taikyoku Sandan is also known as one of the kihon kata.

Written step-by-step instructions for this kihon kata are at the bottom of the page. This kata is similar to Taikyoku Shodan. However, Taikyoku Sandan introduces back stances (Kokutsu Dachi) to students and replaces some low (downward) blocks found in Shodan with inside blocks (Uchi Uke).

For other Shotokan katas, please visit the main Shotokan Karate Katas page.
