Skater Jumps or Ice Skaters - Martial Arts Plyometrics Exercise

This page provides details on "Skater Jumps" or "Ice Skaters". This plyometrics exercise is used by martial artists in order to increase their leg strength and thus generate stronger martial arts kicks. In addition, skater jumps are also used to improve overall martial arts agility. This can help a martial artist's sparring skills because it can improve their ability to evade an opponent. Moreover, it can improve their ability to quickly move diagonally into position in order to launch a counterattack. Some martial artists use a weight with this exercise but be aware that this can put too much pressure on the knees and can cause injuries.

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained martial arts instructor to ensure the proper technique is being utilized and to avoid potential injuries. For additional stretches and exercises, please visit the main Physical Fitness section.
