In Taekwondo, the flying back kick is known as Twi-myo Dwi Chagi. For information on other martial arts kicks (i.e. spinning hook kick), please visit Black Belt Wiki’s main kicking techniques page.

Flying Back Kick Instructions

  • The secret to the flying back kick is to kick up with the front kick in order to help the martial artists to gain height as they start to twist.
  • The flying back kick is a spectacular kick often used in demonstrations and breaking techniques. However, it is not seen as a very effective self-defense kick by many martial artists.

Martial arts kicks and all other martial arts techniques should only be practiced under the supervision of a trained martial arts instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. In addition, all martial arts techniques and training should be used safely and responsibly.
