Inside Crescent Kick – Martial Arts Technique

This page provides details on the martial arts inside crescent kick. The crescent kick is used in many different martial arts styles. For example, the inside crescent kick is known as Bandal An Chagi in Taekwondo. In Karate, this kick is known as Uchi Mikazuki Geri. The inside crescent kick can also be known in English as an in-to-out crescent kick, outwards crescent kick, etc. Therefore, the name can be confusing given that it can be called an inside or outwards kick. For information on martial arts kicks (i.e. spinning hook kick), please visit Black Belt Wiki’s main Martial Arts Kicks section.

This inside crescent kick travels in a circular motion or arc from the inside to the outside. It strikes an opponent with the outside edge of the foot (or heel of foot in a “crescent axe kick” hybrid variation). This kick should not be confused with the Outside Crescent Kick (which moves from the outside to the inside). An inside crescent kick can be slightly harder to throw than the outside crescent kick given the need for greater flexibility.

Martial arts kicks and all other martial arts techniques should only be practiced under the supervision of a trained martial arts instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. In addition, all martial arts techniques and training should be used safely and responsibly.
