Rebreakable Boards

Rebreakable Boards – Martial Arts

This page provides details on how to use plastic rebreakable boards for martial arts training. Rebreakable boards and breaking techniques are used to demonstrate power and accuracy with kicks and strikes. They are often used during belt tests, breaking demonstrations, competitions, etc. Breaking techniques are used by many martial arts, especially Taekwondo.

When practicing breaking techniques, martial artists will break numerous boards. Since it is expensive to buy a huge number of wooden boards, many martial arts schools often buy reusable plastic rebreakable boards.

These boards can “broken” by kicks (i.e. back kick) or hand strikes (i.e. knife hand strike) and then “repaired” by sliding the two plastic halves back together again. Rebreakable boards often come in 3 or 4 different thicknesses. The thinnest is used for children as it is very easy to break. The thickest version can be difficult to break for adult beginners.
