Workout Bar – Functional Strength Training

A workout bar is a padded weight bar used for functional strength training. Workout bars are also known as padded weight bars, body bars, etc. As you know, functional strength training involves exercises that mimic common sports movements. Martial artists use functional strength training exercises that mimic punching, kicking and/or grappling motions in order to improve the power of their martial arts techniques. A workout bar is generally lightweight (as it is used for more for muscle endurance than muscle building). Athletes can buy workout bars in various weights (i.e. 5, 10 or 20 pound bars).

Functional strength training forces groups of muscles to work together efficiently as a single unit which improves overall strength and coordination. It can also enhance an athlete’s overall speed, agility, balance, etc. The workout bar can be used for squats, shoulder presses, seated rows, etc. See the videos below for examples. Workout bars are similar to a weighted Bo staff or some of Karate’s Hojo Undo training equipment, especially the Suburito. FYI – Other functional strength training equipment includes medicine balls, kettlebells, etc.

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained martial arts instructor in ordehttps://blackbeltwiki.com/bo-staff-how-to-do-a-basic-spinr to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. If you have had an injury or are in pain, please see a doctor before starting any stretching or exercise program. If you are looking for information on other exercises and stretches, please visit Black Belt Wiki’s Martial Arts Strength Training or Martial Arts Stretching sections.
