Tan - Hojo Undo Exercise Tool

Tan is a barbell-like tool used in Hojo Undo. This traditional Karate strength training tool is similar to a modern barbell. However, in contrast to modern metal barbells, a tan traditionally consists of a wooden handle with stone weights on both ends. A tan is used to build strength in a student's arms, shoulders, legs, etc.

Other traditional Hojo Undo strength training equipment includes the Chi Ishi, Ishi Sashi, Kongoken, etc.
