The Karate Kid – Martial Arts Movie for Kids

The Karate Kid is a 1984 martial arts movie that starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. This popular martial arts movie focused on a boy learning Karate in order to defend himself against bullies. There are many classic martial arts “lines” associated with this movie including “Wax on, Wax off”, “Sweep the leg”, “Look eye! Always look eye!”, etc.

Rotten Tomatoes, the movie review website, gave this movie a score of 90 out of 100. They also stated “Utterly predictable and wholly of its time, but warm, sincere, and difficult to resist, due in large part to Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio’s relaxed chemistry.”

Give the huge success of this martial arts movie, there were numerous sequels including The Karate Kid Part 2, The Karate Kid (2010 version), etc. It was also made into a 2018 Youtube series called Cobra Kai where Daniel (the hero) and Johnny (the bully) are middle aged.
