Learn about the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF)

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) is a large global organization focused on spreading the martial arts of Taekwondo and was established in 1973. According to its website, the WTF "is the International Federation [IF] governing the sport of Taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations [ASOIF]." The Taekwondo sparring in the summer Olympics is governed by WTF rules and regulations.

The WTF has official national governing bodies in 205 countries.

Competing international Taekwondo associations include the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) and American Taekwondo Association (ATA).

While most Taekwondo organizations use similar techniques (i.e. Taekwondo kicks), the WTF uses forms (or poomsae) that differ significantly from the patterns used by the WTF Taekwondo or the forms used by ATA Taekwondo,
