Quarterstaff

Quarterstaff – British Martial Arts Weapon

The Quarterstaff is a British wooden staff about 6-9 feet long. This weapon is most famous for its use in the battle between Robin Hood and Little John. The quarterstaff is similar to the Okinawan and Japanese Bo.

This martial arts weapon was extensively used in the medieval ages. However, quarterstaff training had largely died off by the early twentieth century. However, it is making a comeback with the recent surge in historical martial arts clubs and associations. Martial arts students that train with a quarterstaff learn various staff techniques (i.e. spins, blocks and strikes).
