Karate Kicks – Ushiro Geri (Back Kick)

This page provides details for the Karate kick known as Ushiro Geri. In English, this Karate kick is often called a back kick. This Japanese Karate term is literally translated as Ushiro = Behind and Geri = Kick.

Ushiro Geri is a powerful kick because the back kick is thrown like a mule kick. However, a back kick can be a less accurate kick because it is aimed at a target behind the kicker. For written instructions on a variety of back kicks, students should the main Martial Arts Back Kicks section.
