Wing Chun Wooden Striking Dummy

Wing Chun Wooden Striking Dummy

This page provides details on how to use a Wing Chun Wooden Striking Dummy. This wooden training tool is also known as Wing Chun Wooden Man Post, Mu Ren Zhuang, Mook Yan Jong, etc.

This Chinese training tool has been used for centuries in order to practice martial arts kicks and hand strikes. In addition, since it is made from wood (versus softer padded tools such as a kicking shield), martial artists use the Wooden Striking Dummy in order to try and harden their hands, forearms, shins, etc.

This martial arts training tool is associated with Wing Chun but is used by many southern Kung Fu styles. It is supposedly a derivative of the wooden practice dummies used centuries ago in the Shaolin Temple. For other traditional training tools, please visit the Martial Arts Training Equipment section.
